Decorate Your Door Contest
1. Select a book/picture book. This should be a class decision.
2. Choose a scene from that book.
3. Students decorate the entrance door of your classroom with that
scene.
4. Name of book and author/illustrator should be clearly stated somewhere
on the door.
5. Doors should be completed by ___________(date)
6. Judging will take place on _____________(date)
7. Judges will look for originiality, creativity, sticking to the theme of
the book, and the use of a variety of materials in depicting the
scene.
8. Prizes for the best door will be awarded for each grade level on
School Library Media Day.

Book Character Dress-Up
1. Encourage each student to dress as a character from a favorite book
read this year. (Stress that TV characters will not be accepted.)
Teachers and aides should also take part.
2. Costumes should be planned for comfort so they may be worn all day.
3. The title and author of the book from which the character comes should
be attached to the costume.
4. Each class should have a secret ballot to elect the costume that will
represent their class for the final judging.
5. Originality and creative use of household items/scraps should determine
winners.
6. Classroom winners will assemble in the media center at (...time) for
final judging by impartial judges (community personality, school board
member, principal)
7. The winner(s) and prizes will be announced on School Library Media
Day
