Biography
Weren't we lucky when Harry Allard met James Marshall? We
would not have one of my favorite picture books, Miss Nelson Is
Missing. Other people love it as well since it was voted one of the most
memorable children's books of the century.
Harry Allard's birthday is January 27, 1928. He was born in
Evanston, Illinois. After high school, he went to Northwestern University
where he majored in art. After he graduated, he was a soldier during the
Korean War. With the war years behind him, he lived in France for awhile.
He learned to
speak French so well he later taught French. He came back home to go back
to college, completing his Master's degree at Middleburg College and his
Ph.D. at Yale University. He taught French at the college level for
many years. He is
now retired as a professor from Salem State College.
For further information, visit Harry
Allard Biography from the Educational Paperback Association. Carol
Hurst's Harry Allard Page also has biography and other resources. If
you would like to read more about Harry Allard, you will
find reference books in your school or public library.
