Great Works - Assignment 6 ![]() James Madison University |
Instructions:
From between chapter 12 and Chapter 13 of Ender's Game, choose two small excerpts (just one or maybe two sentences long each) that provide interesting information about the novel. Think of the types of questions of close reading we discussed in Monday's class (eg., what purpose(s) the excerpt serves in terms of plot, setting, mood, theme, character development, etc.). To determine your close reading, you might consider such things as WHY we are told the information, WHY it's told in the way it's told, WHAT we are told, WHAT we are not quite told but can reasonably infer. There are many possibilities; just make sure to choose excerpts that you are sure you understand and that reveals something more upon reflection. :) For each excerpt, write down the quote and then write just two or three sentences explaining what can be learned from this quote and how we learn it.
