Background
Joseph Massey joined the department in the fall of 1996. His primary teaching and research interests are in public relations, organizational communication, crisis management, and persuasion. Before joining the department Joseph taught at the University of Arizona for six years. He also was on the faculty at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona from 1994 to 1996. He has experience teaching courses in public relations, organizational communication, corporate communication, business and professional communication, persuasion, and interpersonal communication.

Joseph has published in the areas of public relations, organizational communication, and research methodology. He has presented papers at the conferences of the International Communication Association, the Speech Communication Association, and the Visual Communication Association.

Joseph is currently working on his Ph.D. in Organizational Communication from the University of Arizona. His dissertation examines the use of organizational public discourse as it influences public perceptions of legitimacy and credibility. He holds an M.A. from the University of Arizona and a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma.

Joseph is the faculty advisor for the Utah State University Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America. He is a member of PRSA, NCA (formerly known as SCA), and ICA.
