The books included for the most part are those which have online reviews which potential users can consult to evaluate the items for themselves. Annotations include suggested grade levels from reviewing sources and location of online reviews. This page is part of the ISLMC bibliotherapy page. Benedict, Helen. Recovery : How to Survive Sexual Assault for Women, Men, Teenagers, and Their Friends and Families. Rev. and expanded ed. Columbia University, 1994.
This book aims to help all victims of sexual assault, including groups frequently omitted from such discussions as gays, elderly, lesbians, incest survivors.. The author offers advice "to help the rape victim"...feel like a survivor instead of a victim. Speaking directly to the victim, Benedict takes her /him through the post-rape recovery stages, emphasizing both how one can help oneself and how others can aid in the recovery process. Mather, Cynthia L. and Kristina E. Debye. How Long Does It Hurt? : A Guide to Recovering from Incest and Sexual Abuse for Teenagers, Their Friends, and Their Families. Illustrated by Judy Wood; designed by Eliana Gil. Jossey-Bass, 1994. The Jossey Social Behavior Series.

Anna is not happy when her cousin Tara's family moves into the house where a sea witch used to live. Tara's behavior is strange at best particularly after her mother dies. The cousins share the experience of the rescue operation of a baby pilot whale. As Tara opens up to her cousin, Anna is shocked to discover that Tara is a victim of incest.
